Dr Makielen is a highly trained and internationally experienced psychiatrist with more than 15 years of experience in psychiatry who is passionate about working collaboratively with her patients. She promotes an open-minded and safe space, and tailors her psychotherapy to your individual needs. Her personable nature lets her get to know you at a deeper level and become truly invested in your future.

 

She works with adults in one-on-one or couple sessions, and is also available for families in need of child or adolescent psychiatric services. You can also find Dr Makielen at Dolphin Tribe – a child, adolescent and perinatal psychiatric clinic in Hills District.

Dr Makielan also offers mentoring and clinical supervision for psychiatry registrars and early-career psychiatrists.

 

Training and Qualifications


Dr Sangeetha Makielan completed her postgraduate foundation medical training in the United Kingdom before training at the Maudsley in London, UK – the world’s oldest psychiatry institution. 

 

  • Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP)

  • Accredited Member of the Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (FCAP)

  • Holds an advanced certificate in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.

  • Holds an advanced certificate in Adult Psychiatry from Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.

  • Member of NSW section of Perinatal and Infant Psychiatry sub-committee of RANZCP.

  • Member of the Faculty of Psychotherapy of RANZCP

  • Royal Australian and New Zealand College (RANZCP) Accredited Supervisor (board-approved supervisor)

  • Hearing Member of the Medical Council.

  • Registered facilitator of the ‘Circle of Security’ Parenting Program. 

  • Registered facilitator for the ‘Tuning into Teens’ Parenting Program. 

  • Trained in autism diagnosis (ADOS-2 and ADI-R).

  • Extensive training in Psychotherapy. 

  • Registered Facilitator for Westmead Feelings Program 2

Referrals to Dr Makielan

​

  • Open for referrals for short-, medium- and long-term Psychotherapy

  • Open for referrals for ongoing psychiatric treatment and management.

  • Dr Makielan does not accept Item 291 or one-off medication review referrals.

  • Dr Makielen is available at Blue Fig Clinic on Thursdays and some Tuesdays.

Working Hours

Tuesdays:  7 AM - 12 PM (some weeks)
Thursdays:  7 am - 2 pm
